Artist Statement
Rain on the windscreen partially distorts the view, emphasizing the disconnection between the space inside the car and the outside world. The speed of travel that is suggested by the way the road is painted contrasts with the precision of the separate raindrops on the windscreen.
The point where the road meets the horizon remains invisible, which together with a strong use of perspective creates a suggestion of the unknown. The excitement of an unknown destination often combines with a complexity of emotions arising from what is left behind. This ambiguity of the present is symbolized by the rain-covered windscreen, which stands for the subtle dividing line between the past and the future.
