Artist Statement
I have been painting since 2000 and have been intrigued by nature for as long as I can remember.
I was born in the West Midlands and from an early age I was fascinated by the animals that surrounded me, from our family dogs to the other animals on my Grandparent’s farm. It was there that I spent most of my childhood.
When I started my degree in Art I remembered those special times and somehow wanted to capture the feelings that I had as a child. I explored with my subject matter and looked at traditional painters such as Edwin Landseer and George Stubbs. I would like to think that I bring my own approach to some of their ideas.
I moved to Hove in 2004 and have been fuelled with the energy of my direct local landscape (Brighton and Hove seafront and the South Downs).Other paintings have taken me to local Farms where I have found my subjects staring at me in a somewhat perplexed whilst I struggle to find the correct pose and composition.
My work has been viewed as humorous as well as having definite anthropomorphic connotations. I myself enjoy the ambiguity that I see in the paintings.
Painting is my passion and I believe it to be my life’s vocation for as long as I can find the inspiration to pick up my brush.
